On the 2nd June, 2008, DRS owned 37423 worked light from Crewe to Plymouth as 0Z50, ready to collect a convoy of preserved diesels from the South Devon Railway the following day. The service was timed into the down platform at Dawlish Warren to let a Voyager pass, and in this recording we hear it getting away from the platform with a rate of acceleration that would make an F1 driver jealous!

Welcome to this new site, which I’ve created to share some of my ever-growing collection of railway related sound recordings. The first clip I’m going to post fits in very nicely with the “start up” theme, and was recorded during the West Somerset Railway’s excellent Mixed Traffic Weekend in June 2008.
Class 14s D9526 & D9520 are waiting at Bishops Lydeard to work the 17:30 to Minehead. With departure time drawing near, the two locomotives are started up. After idling for a minute they move off under the bridge, before reversing into the opposite platform to couple onto their coaches.
